seokjin oh's poster
compare with American culture, but everyone already know when we studied "melting pot" and "salad bowl". I wanted to give my culture power so I decided the poster design, wrote information. We have very strong culture for example we have protected korean culture by ourself when we lost country, and nowadays we were affected by other countries, but we must maintain the national self-respect that is korean people think.
Cultural Identity

From this class, I read some new articles. I know American’s culture is diversity. From those articles, the most interesting thing is two words. One is salad bowl, other is melting pot. At first, I can’t know what different between them, but I know it through this class. Salad bowl means different culture mix but they keep independent. Melting pot means they mix and become one culture. I never heard the two words before. When I read “I Want to Be Miss America”, I would ask myself that if I was a child, I will have the same idea as author or not. I think my answer is yes, because the situation is I was a child. Now I am an adult, so I don’t have this idea. Maybe my clothing style different with other people, I think is my charm. We should respect any culture and any different things.
China Today
As a Chinese, I am so proud of my mother country, China. As everybody knows, China is a big counrty has 13 hundred million people live in. And even most of you can tell that Chinese people speak mandarin and maybe only cantonese(That's fault). China has a long history, no other countries would like today's China that has been through the vicissitudes of 5000 years. Dynasties ended and changed, how did people change? Today 's China is governed by Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and China is seen to spring up rapidly. It's this realy true? Let me show you some pictures I reseached from internet recently.
In the center of the poster shows there is the governor of today's China——Chairman Hu Jintao, and the military——People's Liberation Army. Our soldiers are serve nation and the people heart and soul.
People live in country or cities have different lifestyles. Things in China are complicated, the customs are different but all from traditions. Modern cultures from Westen were accepted rapidly by the youngs, but in someways they still keep up traditional spirits.

Elsa's cultural identity
The cultural identity for me is that I love both American and Chinese Culture because I am going to live the rest of my life here.As a Chinese, there's a lot to do for Chinese New year. When New Year comes people would put letters on their door. There's a lot to do like Dragon dance, eat with family and others. I think American and Chinese and the common thing that they love is famous band. They would buy it and trying to show that they have good taste in something. However, I think everyone come to this country is because that they want to have to better education and high paying job in the future. They have common goal and hope their children will accomplish their goal and to be a better person

Cultural Identity Wrap-up

I learned what is the difference between melting pot and salad bowl in this unit on Cultural Identity. When many people who come from different countries and have their cultures come to U.S. there are always some unfair treatments, so when the offsprings of immigrants was children, they really wanted to be American, but when they grew up, they changed their mind, it's not necessary. So we should tell our friends or family to be yourself,we are the same.

2nd Blog Assignment (Culture Identity Wrap- up)

In this unit on Cultural Identity, I learned about the concept of melting pot and salad bowl. I never heard about it before. Now, I understand melting pot means different cultures become one culture, and salad bowl means different cultures mix but stay independent. I chose this concept because I think it is interesting. I also learned a new idea in “They’ve Got to be Carefully Taught”. It showed us that there is an appropriate age to teach concepts such as cultural diversity. If you teach it too early or too late, there will be a bad effect on the children. So, you also have to teach melting pot and salad bowl at the right age.

My Poster
My poster is about my cultural identity. First, I chose “Chinese martial arts” because it has a long history in China. I also know Americans like martial arts, especially in movies. Second, I chose “Go” and “Chinese chess” because these games are very popular with both young and old people in China. Next, I chose a picture of “calligraphy” because it shows how long Chinese history is. You can see how the word for horse started as a drawing of a horse. Now it looks totally different. I added a picture of “ink and wash painting” because it is very similar to calligraphy, and I think the pictures are very beautiful. After that, I put a picture of “qi pao” because it is still popular in China for special occasions and because I like fashion. In the middle of the poster, I put some information about myself, because I hope it can help my classmates to know more about me. I chose “Marriage” because family and marriage are very important parts of Chinese people’s lives. Since I am married, I put one of my photos on the poster. Last, since I have also been influenced by Japan and America, I added small pictures of different Japanese and American things.
